August 23rd – Troy, NY – The Cyclones lost to the Tri-City ValleyCats on Tuesday night by the score of 7-3. The Brooklyn offense went one-for-nine with runners in scoring position. Eduardo Aldama suffered the loss for the Cyclones, allowing six runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four over 4.0 innings of work. Despit the loss, the Cyclones gained ground on Williamsport, who were swept in a double header by Batavia and Brooklyn now is just 1.0 game behind in the Wild Card race.
The ValleyCats took advantage of wildness from Cyclones starter Eduardo Aldama (3-4) to jump out to an early lead and never looked back. Aldama walked three and had a costly wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning that lead to four runs and put Brooklyn in an early 4-0 hole
Brooklyn cut the lead in half in the top of the second thanks to an RBI double from T.J. Rivera and a run scoring single from Xorge Carrillo that made it 4-2 after two.
But an inning later, Tri-City responded and put the Cyclones in their rear-view mirror for good. Matthew Duffy started the frame with a single and came around to score on a two-run home run from Zach Johnson that pushed the ValleyCat lead to 6-2. The lead would balloon to 7-2 in the fifth inning thanks to a two-out RBI single from Justin Gominsky.
Richard Lucas tried to jumpstart the Brooklyn offense with a solo blast in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Cyclones continued to claw back in the ninth thanks to an RBI single from Chase Green that made it 7-4, and brought the tying run to the plate with nobody out. But Danny Muno, Charley Thurber and Brandon Brown couldn’t keep the rally going as Ryan Cole came out of the Tri-City pen and retired the trio in order to end the game.
The Cyclones will square off with the ValleyCats once again tomorrow and Thursday before returning to MCU Park to open a four-game set with the Hudson Valley Renegades on Friday.
