CYCLONES LOSE A HEARTBREAKER AT SI, 6-5 IN 10

July 2nd -- Staten Island, NY -- Brandon Brown became the sixth Cyclone to collect five hits in a game with his 5-5 effort this evening, but the Staten Island Yankees rallied with three runs in the ninth and one in the 10th to steal a 6-5 win at Richmond County Ballpark on Staten Island. With the win, the Staten Island Yankees extended their winning streak to 12 games.  Saturday's game marked the first time in the 2011 season that the Brooklyn Cyclones have allowed more than five runs in a game.

After a scoreless first inning, Brooklyn drew first blood in the top of the second courtesy of a mammoth home run off the bat of Juan Torres, a solo blast to left field, which made the score 1-0. The Cyclones padded their lead in the third, once again courtesy of the long ball, as Javier Rodriguez connected on a three-run blast to push the Brooklyn advantage to 4-0. J-Rod has at least one RBI in his last three games and has driven in 10 runs total over that span.

Staten Island sliced into the lead in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs off of Brooklyn Starter Eduardo Aldama, to trim the Cyclones lead to 4-2 after three innings, but that is the only offense they would muster against the right-hander, who struck out nine over his 4.2 innings of work.

After the teams matched zeros in the fourth and fifth innings, Brooklyn padded their lead in the top of the sixth. Chase Greene and Ish Tijerina started the rally with a walk and an infield single before Brandon Brown plated Greene with an RBI single to push the Cyclones lead to 5-2 after six innings.

Brooklyn would threaten to add to their lead in the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but Brian Harrison grounded into a double play to end the rally, which would prove to be critical.

TJ Chism and Casey Hauptman combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief before handing the ball off to Jeremy Gould in the ninth. The lefthander retired the first two batters he faced, but then the Baby Bombers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth with Yankees third baseman Zach Wilson's RBI single tying the game at 5-5 and forcing extra innings. In the tenth, Shane Brown singled to start the rally for Staten Island before moving to third on a pair of wild pitches from Hunter Carnevale (1-1) and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Yankees a 6-5 victory in extras.

The Cyclones will look to rebound when they return to MCU Park on Sunday evening for the second game of a four-game set against the Staten Island Yankees. The special Sunday start time will be 6:00 PM. Fans are invited to come to the ballpark early and have a catch on the field from 5:00-5:30. You must bring your own ball and glove. Then, following the game all children will be invited to run the bases before the special Holiday Fireworks Extravaganza. Tickets are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX, at the MCU Park box office, or at BrooklynCyclones.com.
