June 28th -- Aberdeen, MD -- The Cyclones bats mustered only one run on five hits, but that was all the offense they would need as Carlos Vazquez (1-2) and three Cyclones relievers kept the IronBirds off the scoreboard all night in a 1-0 shutout win for Brooklyn. With the victory, the Cyclones improved to 8-4 as they won their third series in four tries this season.

Through his first two starts of the season, Carlos Vazquez has been Brooklyn's own Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In innings one through four, he has been nearly perfect. Allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out 10 and not surrendering a run. The fifth inning however, has been his undoing - allowing seven hits and five runs.

But tonight, Vazquez made a big leap in his development. After once again cruising through the first 4.0 innings without allowing a hit, he was once again faced with adversity in the fifth, but this time he fought his way through. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Connor Narron singled and Wynston Sawyer doubled to put runners on second and third with one away. Vazquez, faced with his first base runners of the evening, quickly extinguished the threat striking out the next two batters he faced, his only punch-outs of the evening, to keep the Cyclones ahead 1-0 after five.

The Cyclones scored that lone run in the second inning thanks to a pair of doubles. Richard Lucas laced a two-bagger to right field to collect the first hit of the game for Brooklyn, and put a runner in scoring position for the Cyclones and set the stage for Charley Thurber's two-out double, which plated Lucas for the lone run of the game.

With offense at a premium, it was the Cyclones bullpen that once again played a pivotal role. Orlando Tovar pitched a scoreless sixth, followed by Hunter Carnevale who tossed 2.2 near-perfect innings, before giving way to TJ Chism. The southpaw worked his way in and out of trouble, recording the final out of the game with the tying and game-winning runs on base, to collect his third save of the year.

Brooklyn returns to MCU Park on Wednesday night to open a three-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a scratch off card with a chance to win game-worn Cyclones jerseys. In addition, there will be a post-game fireworks show as the Cyclones celebrate the end of school in New York City and the start of summer. Tickets are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX, in person at the MCU Park box office or at
